Born on 16th March, 1956 in Shillong (Meghalaya). Studied in St Edmund's College, Shillong, (1962-1966) and St Columba's High School, New Delhi (1966-1971). Passed the Indian School Certificate Examination in 1971-1972. Was selected for the National Science Talent Scholarship (1972). However, took up Economics (Hons) and graduated from St Stephen's College, Delhi University in 1975. Passed Tripos in Economics Examination from Trinity College, Cambridge University, U.K. in 1977 and obtained the B.A(Hons) and M.A. Degrees. Was Lecturer in Economics for B.A.(Hons) Second and Final Year students in St Stephen's College, Delhi (1977-1979). At the same time, was also studying for the LLB Degree which he received in 1980 from Delhi University. Enrolled as an Advocate on 5.9.1980 with the Bar Council of Delhi and started practice in the Supreme Court of India and Delhi High Court. Initially joined the chamber of Shri Siddhartha Shanker Ray, Bar-at-Law (Senior Advocate) for about three years. Thereafter, practiced law independently. In 1986 he set up a law firm under the name of “Lawyers Associated”. Was partner in the firm till March, 2000. Thereafter, practiced in the Supreme Court and other High Courts as counsel and also advised on various aspects of law relating to finance, companies, properties, banking, contracts and other areas of commercial and civil law. Also has a keen interest in Personal Laws including Muslim Personal Law and has written several articles in this connection. Has contributed the section on “Deeds and other instruments” for Halsbury's Law of India. He is keenly interested in computers and knows several computer programming languages including Assembly, C Basic, Visual Basic and dialects of Dbase (including Clipper) and has written two stand-alone accounting software packages for lawyers: ACT-C and ACT-S. Till his elevation as an additional Judge of the Delhi High Court on 20th December, 2002, he was also the Secretary of Ghalib Institute, New Delhi. He is a keen sportsman and played Cricket and Football for the school. Was member of the St Stephen's College Tennis Team and played Tennis and Squash for Trinity College, Cambridge, U.K.
Appointed as Chief Justice of High Court of Jammu & Kashmir vide notification No.K.13021/01/2017-US.II dated 24th March,2017 and took oath of office on 1st April, 2017.
Hon’ble Sh. Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar
Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar was born on 14.02.1959. He hails from Panapakkam Village, Vellore District (Formerly North Arcot District), Tamil Nadu. Justice R. Sudhakar’s father, Late Shri Justice S. T. Ramalingam served as a Judge of the Madras High Court. Justice R. Sudhakar’s maternal grandfather, late Shri S.P.Sri Ram served as a District Judge and retired as Chairman of the Sales Tax Appellate Tribunal. Justice R. Sudhakar had his early schooling in Don Bosco Matriculation School, Egmore, Chennai and completed from St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Madurai . During his school days, he was an active member of the Boy’s Scout movement. He graduated from Loyola College, Chennai. He actively participated in sports, social and cultural activities both in School and in College. Justice R. Sudhakar was conferred a Degree in Law from Madras Law College. Justice R. Sudhakar was enrolled as an Advocate on 14.12.1983 and started practice as an associate of the Legal Luminary and Senior Advocate Shri Habibullah Badsha, former Advocate General of Tamil Nadu and Public Prosecutor of Madras High Court, who has now retired from practice in view of the old age. The pedigree of the law firm is worth mentioning. Shri Habibullah Badsha was associated with Shri Govind Swaminadhan - Crown Prosecutor and former Advocate General, Tamil Nadu, who in turn was groomed by legal luminary of the Criminal Bar, Barrister late Shri V.L.Ethiraj, the Founder of Ethiraj College for Women. Shri Govind Swaminadhan practised in the Supreme Court also and appeared as a Counsel in the famous Keshwa Nanda Bharti case. Justice R. Sudhakar, practised in all branches of law and specialized in the field of Customs, Central Excise and Sales Tax Law. Besides, Madras High Court, he also practised/appeared in cases before the High Court of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka High Court and Kerala High Court. He regularly appeared in matters before the Supreme Court of India as well. Justice R. Sudhakar hails from a family actively involved in freedom movement championed by the Father of our Nation Mahatma Gandhi. His maternal great-grandfather late S.P.Ayyaswami Mudaliar, a well known Civil Engineer in the early twentieth century, took active part in the freedom movement. During the years 1939 and 1940 the family hosted several national leaders and freedom fighters like Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose at their palatial house “ GANDHI PEAK ” on Barathi Salai, Royapettah, Chennai, named in memory of the Father of our nation. Justice R. Sudhakar is committed to social welfare causes and social reforms. The empowerment of Advocates and their upliftment to bring the creed to its tall stature as it was during the freedom struggle, is his ambitious project. He takes keen interest in development Agri Horticulture and support activities for improvement of the natural resources. He is proactive in protection of Environment and Heritage. Promoting the cause of under privileged, protecting the differently abled people, senior citizens and their rights, is his vision. Social health and welfare issues are priorities in his judicial role. He is fond of Travelling, Sports, Music, Art and Cultural activities. He organized a two days’ programme of young Advocates on different parts of legal education in the Tamil Nadu Judicial Academy. Justice R. Sudhakar was elevated to the Bench as an Additional Judge of the High Court of Madras on 10.12.2005 and as a Permanent Judge on 20.04.2007. In his career as a Judge of the Madras High Court spreading over a decade he decided 26196 Main Cases and 32943 Misc. Cases. A number of judgments delivered by him are reported in various Law Journals published in different parts of the Country. On his transfer from the Madras High Court, Justice R. Sudhakar took the oath of the office of a Judge of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir on the 18th day of April, 2016, at 10.00 A.M.

Born on 28-05-1957 at Village Rajpora, Pulwama.Did his LL.B from Kashmir University, joined the Bar and practised as Advocate from 1981 to 1993. Appointed as District & sessions Judge on 27th of May 1993.Remained posted as Principal District & Sessions Judge, Baramulla, Principal District & Sessions Judge, Anantnag, Additional District & Sessions Judge, Srinagar, Special Judge, Anti Corruption, Kashmir, Registrar General, High Court of J&K and Principal District & Sessions Judge, Srinagar. Attended “International Conference on Arbitration (ICCA). Was granted selection grade in July 2001 and was placed in Super Time Scale in April, 2007. Elevated as Additional Judge of High Court of Jammu and Kashmir on 23.11.2007. Appointed as permanent Judge of High Court of Jammu and Kashmir on 01.10.2009. Functioned as Acting Chief Justice of High Court of Jammu and Kashmir from 05.01.2015 to 02.02.2015.

Practiced on Civil & Constitutional, Arbitration and Company Matters in the High Court of Madhya Pradesh at Jabalpur. Appointed as Additional Judge of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh on December 29, 2009 and Permanent Judge on February 15th, 2011. Transfered to High Court of Jammu and Kashmir on September 16, 2016. vide notification No.K-11017/33/2016-US.II dated 09th September, 2016 and took oath of office on 20th September, 2016.

Born on 8th December, 1960 in Village Wattoo, Tehsil Damhal Hanjipora, District Kulgam, Kashmir; received school education in native village; did his Graduation and LL.B (Hon’s) from the University of Kashmir; was enrolled as Advocate in the year 1984 and started practicing law in the District courts, including Revenue Courts/Tribunals; simultaneously started conducting matters in the High Court. Born in an agriculturist family of Varsudopa on 10th April 1963 at Village SKURBUCHAN, District Leh Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir State, did his Graduation and LL.B from University of Jammu; was enrolled as an Advocate on 6th March 1990 in Bar Council of Jammu and Kashmir and started practicing in the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir & various other High Courts on Arbitrations, Constitution, Service, Election, Civil and Criminal matters. Experienced in researching intent of laws & judicial decisions & apply law to clients’ circumstances. Remained as Standing Counsel for Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh from 1997 till 2005; was appointed as Additional Central Government Standing Counsel, now Central Government Counsel, for Jammu and Kashmir High Court, Jammu Wing in September,1998 and continued till elevation; was also remained as panel counsel for Union Public Service Commission, New Delhi from April, 2008 till 31st December 2011; was appointed as Additional Judge of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir vide Notification No. K.13021/01/2012-US.II dated 7th March, 2013 and took oath of office on 8th March, 2013. Born in Bhaderwah on 29th August 1956. Was appointed Munsiff Hira Nagar in November 1982, after qualifying Kashmir Civil Service (Judicial) exam. After rendering excellent judicial service for 17 years he was promoted as District & Sessions Judge in August 1999. He was posted as Principal District & Sessions Judge of all most all the districts of Jammu province besides serving two times as Special Judge Anti-corruption Court Jammu. Because of his outstanding performance his services were placed at the disposal Chief Justice of the J&K High Court & served as Registrar Judicial, Principal Secretary to Chief Justice, Registrar Vigilance & Registrar General High Court. He was conferred Suppertime Scale on 05.01.2009. His over 28 years of service he proved his mettle by delivering various judgments of public interest on Civil & Criminal side besides deciding numerous accidents claims as President of the MACT Jammu & landmark judgment as Judge of the Anti-corruption Court Jammu. He has always maintained judicial decorum & dignity of the court wherever he was posted & his administrative qualities on all the prominent posts in the High Court administration. His last postingbefore elevation was as Judicial Member, J&K Special Tribunal (appellate authority). Appointed as Additional Judge of High Court of Jammu and Kashmir on 08.03.2013. Born on August 28, 1961 in Jalandhar, Punjab, His Lordship did ICSE from St. John's High School, Chandigarh in 1978, Bachelor of Arts from D.A.V. College, Chandigarh in 1982, LL.B. from the Panjab University in 1985 besides stood 1st Class 1st in Bachelor of Law in 1984 for which he was awarded Rai Bahadur Badri Dass Medal as well as Vice - Chancellor’s Merit Scholarship. His Lordship taught Law at the Department of Laws, Panjab University, Chandigarh as a visiting part-time faculty from 1990 - 96. His Lordship was enrolled as a member of the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana in 1985 and practised in divergent fields of law. His Lordship remained Legal Advisor to the Punjab State Industrial Development Corporation Limited, Electronic Systems Punjab Limited, Punjab Information and Communication Technology Corporation Ltd., besides conducted cases on behalf of the Hon'ble High Court of Punjab and Haryana, Food Corporation of India and other organizations. His Lordship was Senior Panel Counsel, Government of India for the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Chandigarh besides Additional Advocate General, Punjab w.e.f. November 1, 2012, till elevation as Additional Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court on September 25, 2014. His Lordship on transfer took oath as Additional Judge of High Court of Jammu and Kashmir on 12.02.2015.
